据介绍，疾病管理本部从去年感染中东呼吸综合征病毒的8名患者处提取咳痰等样本，对病毒表面的刺突糖蛋白遗传基因进行分析后，得出了病毒发生变异的结论。这一研究结果已发表在美国2016年1月刊《新型传染病杂志》上。
　
疾病管理本部同时强调，尽管病毒在韩国发生变异是事实，但这种变异是否会改变病毒传播方式目前尚不能确定，还需进行更复杂和更精准的分析，以明确这种变异产生的影响。
　　
去年5月韩国报告首例中东呼吸综合征病例以来，韩国共发现186个感染病例，其中38人死亡，近1.7万人接受隔离。韩国保健福祉部2015年底宣布，该国中东呼吸综合征疫情于12月23日24时正式结束。
