The Scandinavian Journal of Surgery is a peer-reviewed, open access journal owned by the Finnish Surgical Society. The journal is published four times a year. Reviews are carried out by members of the Editorial Board and other international reviewers representing various surgical specialties. Articles are published in American English. All contributions should conform to the recommendations stated in the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association (1964). The journal does not perform linguistic revisions and submissions that do not comply with the journal format or are considered out of scope will be returned to the authors before initiating the review process.


Open access article processing charge (APC) information

Publication in the journal is subject to payment of an article processing charge (APC). The APC serves to support the journal and ensures that articles are freely accessible online in perpetuity under a Creative Commons licences.

The APC for this journal is currently an introductory rate of $1,000, discounted from the full rate of $2,000. The introductory rate is available for a limited time.

The APC is payable when a manuscript is accepted after peer review, before it is published. The APC is subject to taxes where applicable. Please see further details here.

Aims and scope

The Scandinavian Journal of Surgery (SJS) is the official peer reviewed journal of the Finnish Surgical Society and the Scandinavian Surgical Society.

It publishes original and review articles mainly from the following surgical fields and specialties (in alphabetical order):

The main aim of the journal is on the rapidly advancing front of clinical surgery, providing new knowledge to the global surgical community.
