慢性炎性痛,如纤维肌痛症和骨关节炎,在女性中发病率较高。虽然吗啡仍然是用于治疗严重或慢性疼痛的首选药物之一,但在女性中通常效果较差。

为了检测性别差异如何影响吗啡的镇痛作用,Doyle给雄性和雌性大鼠注射了一种抑制小神经胶质细胞活化的药物。

这项研究的结果对疼痛的治疗有重要的暗示,小神经胶质细胞可能是改善阿片类在女性中的镇痛效果的重要药物靶点。研究小组同时发现,女性的小神经胶质细胞在涉及疼痛处理的脑区域中更加活跃,可能有助于解释为什么各种慢性疼痛综合征的发生率在女性中明显高于男性。
