研究者Pollastri表示，目前我们正在同西班牙的科学家及葛兰素史克公司联合研究，对4.2万种抵御引发非洲锥虫病的寄生虫的化合物进行筛选和检测，这项研究报告中，我们鉴别出了800种化合物或许都是抵御寄生虫感染的良好选择。然而这仅仅迈出了寻找治疗非洲锥虫病的第一步。

此前研究人员共享了研究数据，这样科学家们就可以共同来为治疗非洲锥虫病作出自己的贡献，非洲锥虫病是世界卫生组织规定的17种易被忽视的热带疾病中的一种，其仅在撒哈拉以南的非洲地区被发现，每年感染人数为1-3万人；采采蝇可以传播这种疾病，首先感染者会经历诸如发烧、咳嗽、关节痛等症状，第二阶段寄生虫就会进入到感染者的中枢神经系统中最终引发睡眠周期紊乱，甚至昏迷，如果没有得到有效治疗患者就会死亡。

目前研究人员希望通过筛选可以找到阻断激酶介导的磷酰基转移过程的抑制剂，激酶介导的磷酰基转移对于细胞信号转导非常关键，下一步研究人员将会继续对这800种化合物进行筛选检测，来确定真正具有潜力治疗非洲锥虫病的药物。
