CUL4B在CUL4B-RING泛素连接酶（CRL4B）复合物中扮演者支架蛋白的角色，且参与了各种生物学过程。之前的研究表明了CUL4B在各种实体瘤中过表达且表现出致瘤活性。然而，CUL4B在膀胱癌（BC）中的角色和潜在的作用机制仍旧不清楚。

最近，有研究人员表明了CUL4B水平在BC中过表达且与BC的恶性化呈现正相关关系，CUL4B还能够促使BC细胞增加运动性、浸润性、干细胞特性和化疗抗性。PIK3CA/AKT途径为BC细胞中CUL4B激发致瘤特性的一个关键下游调控因子。更多的是，研究人员阐释了CRL4B能够通过催化基因簇编码miR-372/373位点H2AK119的单泛素化表观抑制miR-372/373的转录，导致PIK3CA的上调和AKT的激活。

最后，研究人员指出，他们的发现阐释了CUL4B-miR-372/373-PIK3CA-AKT在BC病理过程中的关键作用，并且对BC具有重要的预后和治疗应用价值。
