此项自身对照系列研究从数据库中确认了1546例应用一种抗精神病药物的心肌梗死患者。在相同患者中评估抗精神病药物启用后危险期相对于未暴露期的心梗发病率。利用经典病例对照研究在病例和匹配对照者中评估抗精神病药物暴露。

结果显示，对于第一代(相对发病率指数[IRR] 2.82)和第二代(IRR 2.5)抗精神病药物，在药物启用后患者30天内心梗与抗精神病药物具有相关性。在病例对照研究中，心梗后30天内应用第一代[比值比(OR) 3.19]和第二代(OR 2.55)抗精神病药物的患者亦可得出相似结果。
