组织学观察显示，TRPV4缺陷型（TRPV4-/-）小鼠的交界上皮细胞具有比野生型（TRPV4 +/+）小鼠更宽的细胞间隙。与TRPV4 + / +小鼠相比，TRPV4 TRPV4-/-小鼠中交界上皮中的外源示踪剂穿透更大，并且TRPV4 TRPV4-/-小鼠中粘附连接蛋白的免疫反应性被抑制。对小鼠牙周炎模型的分析显示，与TRPV4 + / +小鼠相比，TRPV4 TRPV4-/-小鼠的骨量减少更多，表明TRPV4 TRPV4-/-小鼠的上皮屏障缺陷可能与牙周并发症有关。

总之，本研究结果确定了TRPV4在结合上皮中粘附连接形成中的关键作用，可调节其渗透性。因此，TRPV4可能是对抗牙周疾病的候选药理学靶标。
