巨细胞病毒（CMV）可以通过人与人之间的体液交换进行传播，感染免疫力正常的人群后一般没有临床表现，常常为潜伏感染。随着年龄的增加，CMV血清阳性检出率也随之增高。目前有越来越多的证据表明巨细胞病毒与阿兹海默病（AD）有关。为了研究CMV与AD的发病风险之间的关系，拉什大学医学中心的Barnes LL对老年人群展开研究。研究者分析了3个队列研究的数据，共纳入849名老年患者，他们的平均年龄为78.6，平均受教育时间为15.4年，其中25%为黑人。研究者用固相酶联免疫吸附测定法检测患者血清中针对CMV和HSV-1产生的特异型IgG。849名患者中，有73.4%为CMV血清阳性。随访5年后发现，94名患者发生AD。研究者在调整了年龄、性别、教育程度、种族、心血管发病风险、血管疾病和脂蛋白ε4的水平后，发现CMV血清阳性增加了AD的发病风险（RR=2.15），并且加快了患者总体认知程度的降低。黑人和白人患AD的风险和认知力的下降程度相似，并且与HSV-1的血清水平无关。 图1：CMV感染和无CMV感染者AD的发病风险研究结果表明，CMV感染与AD的发病风险升高有关，CMV感染使得老年人认知程度
