来自伦敦大学玛丽王后学院Barts癌症研究所的研究人员,以及他们的合作者在患者的癌症病程中对其滤泡性淋巴瘤进行了DNA测序。研究小组利用最新的技术将随着患者疾病进展发生的一些遗传变化编成了目录,并发现了一些导致疾病发病的遗传突变。

他们还确定了驱动疾病朝着更具侵袭性形式发展的一些关键变化。更为重要的是,这些研究发现提供了有可能阻止滤泡性淋巴瘤对治疗产生耐受,或是变为侵袭性癌症的一些治疗新靶点。

滤泡性淋巴瘤是一种常见的非霍奇金淋巴瘤。近三分之一的非霍奇金淋巴瘤为滤泡性淋巴瘤,在英国每年有大约2500人确诊罹患这一疾病。

这种癌症类型最开始表现得像一种慢性病,患者可带病生存多年,绝大多数的患者在治疗之后可多次康复再复发。现有的治疗方法能够很好地对抗疾病,但在大多数病例中,癌症最终会对治疗产生耐受。有一些患者,他们的癌症会转变为更具侵袭性、更致命的形式,即成为转化型滤泡性淋巴瘤(transformed follicular lymphoma)。

首席研究员Jude Fitzgibbon教授说:“对治疗产生耐受是滤泡性淋巴瘤患者面临的一个主要问题,他们往往对治疗反应良好,但随后再度复发。这可能造成了身体和情感上的双重耗竭。为癌症提供了多个机会演变为更具侵袭性、更难于治疗的疾病形式。”

“我们记述了导致侵袭性疾病形式的一连串遗传事件。如果我们能够开发出一些治疗来阻止其中的某些改变发生,我们应该能够遏制住这种癌症。”

英国癌症研究院高级科学信息主管Nell Barrie说:“这一研究揭示了一些发生的关键分子变化,为治疗这一疾病提供了一些新靶点。研究癌症基础遗传学有助于我们更好地了解敌人,并找到一些有可能战胜它的新方法。”

滤泡性淋巴瘤和其他非霍奇金淋巴瘤最常见的症状是无痛性淋巴结肿块,通常发生在颈部、腋下或腹股沟。如果你注意到这些或是其他不寻常或持续存在的症状,那么让你的医生尽快对它们做出检查是非常重要的。
