此项前瞻性研究共纳入5231例伴临床心血管疾病病史但无糖尿病的患者，并依据体质指数和心肌代谢功能对患者进行分类。通过NCEP代谢综合征标准确定心肌代谢障碍，并利用Cox比例风险分析评估心血管事件和死亡的危险比(HR)。

结果显示，正常体重、超重和肥胖患者的心肌代谢障碍患病率分别为40%、58%和75%。在中位6.1年随访期间，死亡和出现严重心血管事件的患者分别为769和705例。

在无心肌代谢障碍情况下，与无心肌代谢障碍的正常体重患者相比，超重和肥胖患者未出现复发性心血管事件风险升高。伴心肌代谢障碍时，正常体重、超重和肥胖患者均出现心血管风险升高，HR分别为 1.58、1.35和1.50。在血管和全因死亡方面可观察到相似结果。
