纳米医学是应用纳米技术进行疾病预防和治疗的新领域。这个逐步发展的学科有望为医学科学研究带来巨大改变,目前已经有许多临床治疗和诊断方法受到纳米医学技术的影响。

现在对艾滋病的治疗需要HIV携带者每天口服抗HIV药物,而由于慢性口服药物用药量很大导致出现一些复杂问题,许多病人因各种原因无法遵守抗HIV口服药物治疗。

最近对HIV病人群体进行的评估表明,如果方法有效,病人愿意选择纳米医学替代治疗。因此利物浦大学的研究人员着重进行了新型口服治疗药物的开发,想要借助Solid Drug Nanoparticle(SDN)技术提高机体对药物的吸收,这样既可以减少药物剂量,又可以节省花销,节省更多的医疗预算治疗更多的病人。

到目前为止临床上仍然没有可以用于HIV治疗的口服纳米治疗药物,常规的儿童HIV治疗药物也几乎不可用。研究人员分析了一个儿童药物配方,该配方利用高浓度酒精溶解抗逆转录病毒药物lopinavir。

借助新开发的快速小规模纳米医学筛选方法,研究人员找到了一种新型水溶纳米治疗方法,这样就可以在儿童药物中不再使用酒精作为溶剂。

这项研究目前正在进行临床试验,临床前研究结果发表在国际学术期刊Nature Communication上。

文章作者Owen教授表示:“我们的方法有望克服目前抗逆转录病毒治疗面临的一些挑战,包括高剂量给药达到体内的有效浓度以及急需为携带HIV的儿童找到更好的药物配方。”

另外一位作者Rannard教授补充道:“这项策略对多个治疗开发项目都有提示意义,我们希望纳米医学的进步能够满足更多的临床需求。”
