现在,Martin教授及其同事们发现,响应于特定类型的细胞损伤,帕金蛋白可以通过 开启“细胞自杀”(称为细胞凋亡)过程,触发“受伤”神经细胞自毁。

采用尖端技术,研究人员发现损坏的线粒体激活帕金蛋白,从而导致两种不同的结果,要么“受伤”神经细胞自我毁灭,要么开启修复模式。选择哪种结果取决于细胞线粒体遭受的损伤程度。

重要的是,这些新的研究结果表明,帕金森氏病的问题之一可能是未能清除线粒体出现故障的神经细胞。相反,体弱多病和不正常的神经细胞会累积,从而有效地防止了神经细胞更换。

Martin教授评论调查结果时说:这一发现令人惊讶,我们认为帕金在神经细胞内作为死亡制动机制,帮助延缓神经细胞的死亡。然而,新数据表明恰恰相反:帕金实际上可能有助于剔除受伤和“生病”的神经细胞,这可能有利于它们更换。这表明,帕金森氏病可能是由于清除过程失败,有缺陷神经元积聚所造成的。
