eLife:代谢标记物能够准确诊断伤寒

2014年的一项研究表明代谢标志物能够帮助鉴别由不同类型的感染源引发的伤寒疾病,而最近的这一研究结果则是建立在前者的基础之上。

许多发热的疾病,例如伤寒以及疟疾,都有相似的症状,因此难以进行准确的诊断进而会影响有效的治疗。此外,由于目前对于伤寒的诊断检测手段都不够灵敏,一些患者被发现得病时已经为时已晚。

研究者们利用“代谢组学”的手段,检测了生物样本中多种小分子代谢物的组成,并从中鉴定出了不同类型的疾病特有的化合物谱系特征。在此前的研究中,有研究者们利用这一技术鉴定出了由不同类型病原体造成的伤寒的固有特性。

该研究的通讯作者,来自牛津大学的分子微生物学家Stephen Baker,等人收集了多名患者的血液样本,这些患者分别患有沙门氏菌感染引发的伤寒、疑似伤寒症状以及其它类型的普通发热疾病。

利用质谱的技术,研究者们分析了每一名患者血液样本中的代谢物组成,并针对伤寒患者以及普通发热患者进行了分组。之后,他们利用伤寒患者以及普通发热疾病患者的代谢标志物数据判断第三组患者,也就是疑似伤寒症状的患者的真正病因。结果显示,这一模型能够准确地对伤寒患者以及其它类型发热疾病患者进行区分。

作者们希望利用这一技术进一步对更大规模的患者群体进行检测,进而成为新的一种有效检测伤寒疾病的诊断手段。
