瑞典科研人员Bergman等近期的一项多中心临床早期类风湿性关节炎研究显示：女性类风湿性关节炎患者饮酒有助于疾病的康复。在女性类风湿性关节炎患者中，饮酒与自我报告的低疾病活动度和健康相关生活质量(Health Related Quality Of Life，HRQL)较高有关，而在男性类风湿性关节炎患者中无此相关性。 【原文下载】 

瑞典的研究人员从1992至2005年，共纳入2800例患者进行早期类风湿性关节炎患者的BARFOT研究。2010年，采用问卷调查法向BARFOT研究的2102例患者发放问卷，涉及疾病严重程度，HRQL以及生活方式等问题。酒精消耗量使用验证AUDIT-C问卷进行评估。

研究结果中，1460例回答问卷的类风湿性关节炎患者中有1238例具有酒精消耗量的数据：11%为非饮酒者，67%为非危险性饮酒，21%为过度饮酒。女性饮酒者具有较低的疾病活动度和更高的HRQL，但在男性患者中，未发现饮酒与疾病活动性的相关性。对于当前吸烟者，饮酒仅与更少的患者报告关节肿胀数有关。结果不受饮酒种类的影响。在女性类风湿性关节炎患者中，饮酒与自我报告的低疾病活动度和较高的HRQL有关，而在男性类风湿性关节炎患者中无此相关性。
