收集20名GP患者和20名健康参与者的牙龈组织。提取基因组DNA并进行酶消化。在每组包含六个样本的库中，使用涉及应答免疫的基因进行了初步筛选。选择组间表现出不同甲基化水平的基因用于单个测定以进行验证。

阵列结果显示，两组中评估的大多数基因均未甲基化。与GP组相比，对照组中MALT1，LTB和STAT5基因呈现部分甲基化。使用大量样本（每组n = 20）进行的验证的实验证实，与对照组相比，GP组的STAT5甲基化程度较低（P <.001）。

广泛型牙周炎与STAT5基因的甲基化不足有关。还需要进一步的研究来评估这些发现对功能的影响。
