“我们迫切需要更好的方法来准确地诊断阿尔茨海默病和其它痴呆症,并最终需要更多的研究来开发可以应用于临床的新测试。”

TaraSpires-Jones博士说:“这是一个非常有趣的研究,在15个年轻人和15个老年人中寻找肌肉衰老的分子信号。研究人员在这30人中找到的分子信号之后在大脑和血液样本分子数据中被检测过。与健康对照组相比,痴呆患者中的健康老龄化分子信号“成绩”较低。最近,这是一个大型研究,旨在开发血液测试能够检测痴呆的早期阶段。这是很重要的,因为早期检测对有效治疗痴呆症至关重要。”

EricKarran博士说:“在过去的几十年里基因技术的进步使得科学家分析人体的情况比以往更详细。人类生物学的一个最大问题是我们的年龄如何影响我们的健康和诸如阿尔茨海默氏症等疾病的风险。这项研究可衡量一个人的生理年龄,也可以揭示衰老进程,以及为什么有些人更容易患与年龄相关的疾病。通过测试测量的生理年龄,一些重要的健康参数如血压似乎并没有被改,血压是我们知道的可以导致痴呆的危险因素。很多数据在这项研究中代表了一个缩影,进一步探讨一个人的生理年龄如何与他们今后生活中的健康和生存相关是很重要的。”

“目前有很多有关血液测试如阿尔茨海默氏症等疾病的研究,但测试需要严格验证证明它是准确和敏感的才可能应用于临床。此外,确证实际大脑病变将继续用于证实或排除临床诊断。本研究将重复验证对阿尔茨海默氏症有用的临床试验,并探索如何可以改善当前的研究实践。”
