This clinical guideline (published March 2011) updates and replaces NICE clinical guideline 33 (published March 2006). New recommendations on using interferon-gamma tests for the diagnosis of latent tuberculosis have been added.The guideline offers evidence-based advice on the diagnosis and treatment of active and latent tuberculosis in adults and children, and on preventing the spread of tuberculosis, for example by offering tests to people at high risk, and by vaccination. The guideline does not explain tuberculosis or its treatments in detail.
