The guideline group was selected to be representative of UKbasedmedical experts. MEDLINE and EMBASE weresearched systematically for publications in English, using thekeywords: thrombotic thrombocytopenia purpura (TTP), ADAMTS13,plasma exchange (PEX) and relevant key wordsrelated to the subsections of this guideline. The writing groupproduced the draft guideline, which was subsequently revisedby consensus by members of the Haemostasis and ThrombosisTask Force of the BCSH. The guideline was then reviewedby a sounding board of British haematologists, the BCSH andthe British Society for Haematology Committee and commentsincorporated where appropriate. The ‘GRADE’ systemwas used to quote levels and grades of evidence, details ofwhich can be found at http://www.bcshguidelines.com.The objective of this guideline is to provide healthcareprofessionals with clear, up-to-date, and practical guidanceon the management of TTP and related thrombotic microangiopathies,defined by thrombocytopenia, microangiopathichaemolytic anaemia (MAHA) and small vessel thrombosis.
