Cell:惊!细菌影响真核生物的交配行为

细菌和真核生物之间的相互作用是普遍存在的,细菌对于真核生物的影响微妙又深刻。但是,由于真核生物通常和复杂不可见的细菌群体相关联,目前对于细菌调控真核生物过程的广度以及潜在分子机制的了解依旧很模糊。但是,已有的证据已经揭示了越来越多宿主-微生物对的实例,其中细菌调节真核细胞的生物学和发育。

细菌和真核生物之间的相互作用是普遍存在的,细菌对于真核生物的影响微妙又深刻。但是,由于真核生物通常和复杂不可见的细菌群体相关联,目前对于细菌调控真核生物过程的广度以及潜在分子机制的了解依旧很模糊。但是,已有的证据已经揭示了越来越多宿主-微生物对的实例,其中细菌调节真核细胞的生物学和发育。

近日,来自加州大学伯克利分校和哈佛大学的研究人员偶然发现,海洋孤菌Vibrio fischeri(V. fischeri)在领鞭虫Salpingoeca rosetta(S. rosetta)中能够诱导有性繁殖。Salpingoeca rosetta是和动物最亲近的亲属之一。尽管已有的研究显示,细菌影响真核生物的多个方面,包括营养,新陈代谢,细胞生物学和发育,但是细菌能够调控真核生物的交配还是让人意想不到的。研究人员还发现,一个单独的V. fischeri蛋白,即以前没有表征的EroS,能够完全模拟V. fischeri引起的交配促进现象。EroS是一种软骨素裂解酶。尽管其底物硫酸软骨素以前被认为是一种动物衍生物,但研究人员证明 S. rosetta能够生产硫酸软骨素。

最后,研究人员表明,V. fischeri,纯化的EroS和其他细菌软骨素裂解酶在环境相关浓度能够诱导S. rosetta的交配,表明细菌可能可以调控领鞭虫的交配行为。
