TECHNOLOGY:新型芯片可追踪并识别癌细胞

来自美国德克萨斯德州大学阿灵顿分校的研究人员研发了一种新的肿瘤细胞检测方法,该方法是将合成的RNA分子涂覆在芯片上以追踪并识别癌细胞。该研究结果在线发表于TECHNOLOGY。

处于静息状态下的细胞在与芯片上的RNA分子结合后,细胞表明会出现有趣的舞蹈行为,结合图像处理技术可定量这种舞蹈行为,而癌细胞的这种舞蹈行为与正常细胞明显不同。因此,临床医生或可利用这种现象来更快更经济的预测癌症检测结果。

细胞运动是通过细胞膜表明的凹凸部分来实现,在此过程中,细胞需要细胞内的骨架结构和细胞膜表面的蛋白之间保持复杂的平衡。众所周知,癌细胞较健康细胞灵活,这主要是由于癌细胞内部骨架结构较弱。癌细胞的细胞骨架和细胞表面蛋白之间的张力不同与健康细胞。此外,癌细胞表明还存在很多异常的表面受体。因此,在与芯片上的RNA分子结合后,人胶质母细胞瘤(hGBM)细胞会表现出明显较强的运动性和活性。

Professor Samir Iqbal 表示,“初步研究结果显示,该技术在如癌症筛查方面的应用具有很大的潜力。针对多种蛋白的多重芯片或可带来一个通用的癌症诊断平台。该技术的优势在于检测速度快,通过识别癌细胞的物理特性,该方法或可作为检测血液样本或活检标本的一个补充方法。”
