较短的LTL只与心源性卒中风险增加有独立和剂量相关性，使用LTL第10和第15百分位定点的调整性别，高血压，糖尿病，心衰和年龄后的模型，得出比值比（95%置信区间）分别为2.93 (1.24-6.94)和6.26 (2.01-19.52)。

房颤患者端粒缩短与心源性卒中风险相关。前瞻性研究鼓励建立LTL的值来改善预测工具对房颤患者的心源性卒中的风险进行分类。
