近些年来，碳酸饮料加剧青少年肥胖成为讨论较多的话题。美国哥伦比亚大学、佛蒙特大学与哈佛大学公共卫生学院的研究团队则评估了碳酸饮料对儿童行为问题的影响。

研究人员在新一期《儿科杂志》上报告说，他们以美国20个大城市约3000名5岁儿童为研究对象，请这些儿童的母亲报告此前两个月中孩子喝了多少碳酸饮料，并填写一份“儿童行为清单”问卷。

研究人员发现，儿童每天喝碳酸饮料越多，就更容易出现攻击性、注意力不集中以及不合群等行为问题，其中每天喝4杯或4杯以上的儿童，破坏别人东西、与人吵架或殴打别人的可能性是不喝碳酸饮料儿童的两倍。

哥伦比亚大学梅尔曼公共卫生学院助理教授莎基拉·苏利亚在一份声明中说，每天每多喝一杯碳酸饮料，都会增加孩子的攻击行为。尽管这一研究没有找到喝碳酸饮料与行为问题之间关系的真正原因，但限制甚至不让孩子喝碳酸饮料或许会减少他们的行为问题。

饮料行业对这一研究迅速做出回应。美国饮料业协会在一份声明中说，喝碳酸饮料会导致行为问题，这个结论下得过早，科学并不支持这一结论，另外协会的成员公司也不向5岁左右的儿童推广碳酸饮料。
