研究人员指出，ERK1/2正常发挥功能的一大特征是其能够发生核转位，并且ERK1/2能够进行核定位对于其发挥促进细胞增殖功能非常重要。而定位在细胞质内处于激活状态的ERK1/2能够诱导即时反馈回路等活性。因此，研究人员提出阻断ERK1/2的细胞核转位或许能够抑制细胞增殖，而不影响ERK1/2在细胞质内诱导的其他细胞进程。

针对这一问题，研究人员开发了一种具有核定位信号的多肽，能够阻断importin7与ERK1/2的相互作用，进而阻止ERK1/2进入细胞核。研究人员通过细胞培养发现这种多肽能够诱导黑色素瘤细胞发生细胞凋亡，同时也能够抑制其他肿瘤细胞的生存，但对于未发生癌转化的永生化细胞没有任何作用，并且这种多肽对于发生化疗药物抵抗的黑色素瘤细胞同样具有杀伤作用。利用异种移植物动物模型，研究人员证明这种多肽能够对几种癌症发挥抑制作用，并且在预防黑色素瘤复发方面比现有的部分化疗药物效果好很多。

这项研究发现阻断ERK1/2细胞核定位可能是一个很好的靶向治疗靶点，并为这一概念提供了充分的实验证据，对于对抗不同种类的与ERK1/2相关的肿瘤具有重要意义。
