ω-3脂肪酸对机体功能包括凝血、消化、肌肉活动、细胞分裂和生长等有重要作用。然而,机体仅能通过饮食获取ω-3脂肪酸作为唯一补充途径。鱼类如鲑鱼、金枪鱼、沙丁鱼、凤尾鱼等是ω-3脂肪酸的主要来源。

斯坦福大学医学院的Liana C. Del Gobbo和同事通过研究对ω-3脂肪酸如何影响心脏健康有了更深入的了解。 

他们研究了海鲜中的ω-3脂肪酸分布及功能,同时分析植物性食物对民众患心脏病的风险影响。
 
研究人员对19个研究进行了分析,共涉及16个国家(包括美国 、英国、意大利、挪威和澳大利亚)中的45637人。随着时间的进展,7973人出现了第一次心脏病发作,共有2781死亡。 

研究人员发现,摄入海鲜和植物性食物较多且机体ω-3脂肪酸水平较高的民众死于心脏病的可能性要低约10%。 

这些研究结果仍与许多可能的混杂因素有关,如参与者的年龄、性别、种族、糖尿病病史、阿司匹林或降胆固醇药物等的使用有关。 

总的来说,研究结果表明,食用富含ω-3脂肪酸的食物可降低民众非致死性心脏病发作的风险。因此,多摄入这类食物对人们的心脏健康有益。但研究人员表示仍需进行更进一步的研究。
