2003~2012年进行全国健康和营养检查调查的横断面研究,此调查为全国有代表性的复杂抽样设计。所有参与者45至79岁,记录血液和尿镉水平(n = 12511)。研究者探讨了血液和尿镉水平与吸烟和复合心血管疾病的预后的相关性,包括自我报告的心肌梗死卒中或两者都存在。研究者采用多变量logistic回归模型进一步校正年龄、收入、性别、高脂血症、体重指数、糖尿病、吸烟强度和戒烟时间。

12511名参与者中,有1330人(8.5%)存在心肌梗死史或卒中或两者都有。血镉水平最低三分之一值比那些最高三分之一的患者,复合终点的粗PR为1.73(95%[CI 1.49-2.01)。校正年龄、性别,收入,自称糖尿病,自称高胆固醇血症,体重指数,吸烟状况后,PR为1.54(95% CI 1.30至1.84)。校正各吸烟组后:从不吸烟者PR为1.54(95% CI 1.09-2.18),当前吸烟者的PR值为1.57(95% CI 1.11-2.23),以前吸烟者的PR值为1.31(95% CI 0.96-1.78)。

全国代表性的样本描述性数据表明,即使校正吸烟状态,血镉水平与心血管预后相关。
