康涅狄格大学的研究人员发现,不吃早餐的孩子更容易变得超重或肥胖。

美国农业部指出,他们为学校的儿童提供免费早餐,但他们担心这导致儿童出现肥胖。专家们认为,免费早餐可能导致更多的孩子们在学校吃双份早餐,一份在家,一份在学校,这可能增加他们肥胖的风险。 

但这项研究结果显示,不吃早餐的儿童较吃双份早餐的儿童肥胖风险更高。 

为了探究儿童的早餐习惯,研究者们对纽黑文12所中学共600名五年级学生进行了追踪随访调查,随访时长从5年级到7年级。在随访期间,研究人员询问孩子们的早餐习惯:在家里吃早餐、在学校吃早餐、吃双份早餐或完全不吃早餐。分析孩子们的主动行为后,研究人员发现,吃双份早餐的孩子并不比吃1份早餐的儿童肥胖。但不吃早餐或不连续吃早餐的儿童肥胖的风险是吃双份早餐儿童的2倍。 

Marlene Schwartz博士指出,为了确保孩子们健康成长,他们认为孩子们一定要吃早餐。不吃早餐更易导致儿童肥胖。但他们表示还需进行更进一步的研究以探究导致这一关联的具体原因。
