纳米颗粒在医学成像和药物运输方面都有很重要的作用,但是通常它们需要通过静脉注射注入体内来到达它们的靶点。意大利米兰仁爱临床与研究中心 (Humanitas Clinical and Research Center) 的研究人员设计出一种具备生物相容性和生物降解性的磷酸钙纳米颗粒。这些纳米颗粒的直径小于50纳米,可以像喷雾剂一样被吸入肺中。然后它们可以从肺中迅速转移到血液循环中去,到达心肌并且在那里释放携带的药物。研究人员在这种纳米颗粒里装载了治疗心力衰竭的多肽药物,在糖尿病性心肌病 (diabetic cardiomyopathy) 的小鼠模型中这种携带多肽药物的纳米颗粒成功恢复了动物的心脏功能。而且研究人员在猪的模型中也证明了这种磷酸钙纳米颗粒是一种有效靶向心脏的施药方式。这些研究结果表明,吸入式的携带多肽药物的纳米颗粒可能成为一种治疗心力衰竭的微创疗法。
