Lilly已签订协议开发Chugai的OWL833，一种口服非肽类GLP-1（胰高血糖素样肽-1）受体激动剂，目前正处于II期糖尿病的I期临床试验阶段。

根据协议条款，礼来公司将获得该药物的全球开发和商业化权利。作为回报，Chugai将获得5000万美元的预付款，并且有资格根据某些预定里程碑的成就进行里程碑收款，以及如果该药物进入市场将支付版税。

礼来首席科学官兼研究实验室主席Daniel Skovronsky对该交易发表评论说："这个令人兴奋的新机会可能代表着改善糖尿病患者预后的重要一步。"

Chugai的执行副总裁补充说："我们相信OWL833可以成为同类最佳的口服非肽GLP-1受体激动剂，并且通过礼来的临床开发将进一步提升其价值，为全世界糖尿病患者做出贡献。"

GLP-1受体激动剂类药物是近年来降糖药物的一个热点研发方向。GLP-1由人胰高血糖素基因编码，并由肠道L细胞分泌的一种肽类激素。GLP-1通过葡萄糖依赖方式作用于胰岛β细胞，促进胰岛素基因的转录，增加胰岛素的生物合成和分泌；刺激β细胞的增殖和分化，抑制β细胞凋亡，从而增加胰岛β细胞数量，抑制胰高血糖素的分泌，抑制食欲及摄食，延缓胃内容物排空等。这些功能都有利于降低餐后血糖并使血糖维持在恒定水平。
