The Journal of Software Maintenance and Evolution: Research and Practice publishes refereed papers on all aspects of software maintenance and software evolution, and at all levels from very detailed to very high level. We seek to include articles from practitioners working in the field (including the user community) as well as from researchers. It is our intention to publish papers on the activities and processes involved in making changes to any existing software implementing in whole or in part, systems from microcoded systems to very high level meta systems, and especially to producing one operational version from another. This includes the management and quality assurance of such activities and processes, as well as their participants, materials, tools, resources, contexts and consequences. Papers on the impact for maintenance or evolution of new software insights or practices will be welcomed, as will papers documenting experiments, existing practices and cases. Other journals do not cater well to the needs of persons or organizations involved in or concerned with the operational support of systems implemented in whole or in part with computer software, and tend to pass over post-delivery and system change situations and their disposition. The Journal of Software Maintenance and Evolution: Research and Practice aims to fill this need by conveying the results of academic research and practical experience. Topics on which papers will be published include but are not limited to: Software evolution lifecycles; Software maintenance management; Tools; Environments; Metrics and productivity methods; Quality assurance; Theory of software maintenance; Maintainability of new software; Methods for software maintenance; Impact for maintenance of new software practices.
