Surface Science deals exclusively with fundamental theoretical and experimental studies in the physics and chemistry of surfaces. It covers topics contributing to a better understanding of basic phenomena occurring on surfaces; the word ''surface'' being interpreted to include free surfaces as well as interfaces generally. A special feature of the journal is the periodic inclusion of proceedings of symposia and conferences on aspects relevant to the study of the physics and chemistry of interfaces.
