A "Surveys in Geometry" series: this will be a series of survey articles on active areas in geometry directed to other geometers. Special issues centered on specific topics. All submitted papers should include some explanation of the context of the main results. After a transition period in which material communicated by the old board will appear the journal will begin publishing papers under the direction of the new board starting around January 1 2001. Geometriae Dedicata was founded in 1972 on the initiative of Hans Freudenthal in Utrecht the Netherlands who viewed geometry as a method rather than as a field.
