这个发现与1985年的一个团队相反，他们使用PET扫描仪进行了类似的实验，发现多个脑区在性高潮期间基本上沉默的证据，导致其他人声称，妇女需要担心，如果她们想要达到高潮，不能分心。使用功能磁共振成像，研究团队的说明要准确得多。
