麦克马斯特大学的研究已经确定了肺癌患者脑转移的全新调节机制。负责这一调节机制的基因称为SPOCK1 TWIST2。

这一发现由癌症研究所的研究人员和麦克马斯特大学的科学家们共同完成的,研究结果发表于近期的《神经病学》杂志中。

研究人员表示:“脑转移是次要的脑瘤,也就是癌细胞从原发肿瘤逃离,继而再大脑中生根落户,常见容易脑转移的肿瘤肺癌乳腺癌,黑色素瘤等。我们一直在寻找可以调节细胞启动脑转移的基因,我们称为大脑转移或BMICs启动细胞。换句话说,就是将信号发送到这些肺BMICs,告知它们离开肺肿瘤,进入血液,侵入血脑屏障,并在大脑中形成肿瘤的基因。”

此次试验的样本来自于肺癌脑转移患者,研究人员将样本孵化为BMICs丰富型,然后注入到小鼠的肺,心脏和大脑。研究人员对脑转移的后续发展进行了研究。

来自麦克马斯特大学的研究人员表示:“在我们的样本中,我们观察到,在发生脑转移的肺癌患者原发肿瘤中,都存在着两种相同的基因,如果没有这两组基因,肺癌患者就不会发生脑转移。”

脑转移瘤是最常见的成人大脑肿瘤,也是很多癌症致死的主要原因。来自癌症研究所的专家们总结称:“如果能够识别引起转移的基因,就可以确定预测模型,那么我们就可以开发阻止这些基因的药物,从根本上阻止肺癌以及其他癌症的脑转移。”
