临床实践指南（clinical practice guidelines，CPGs）的出现是为了更好地将科学研究证据应用到临床。CPGs 遵循的一般步骤为：设定问题，收集证据并进行评估，指南评级。对可用的证据进行系统评价（systematic review，SR）是制定指南的重要组成部分，SR 可以最大限度地减少偏倚和随机误差。美国医学研究所（Institute of Medicine，IOM）列出了标准的系统评价方法，也是所有指南撰写者应该遵循的。AGREEⅡ(The Appraisal of Guidelines for Research and Evaluation，AGREE）是广泛应用的指南评价工具，并在临床及实验室指南中证实有效。
