Sonia Lupien教授和他的团队进行了一样研究，纳入了88名12-17岁的青少年。参与者回答了关于Facebook使用的问卷调查，包括了使用的频率、Facebook好友数量、自我推销行为水平和对社交媒体的朋友鼓励行为情况。研究人员还分析了他们的皮质醇水平，每天四次共三天。

团队强调,皮质醇水平并不完全依赖于他们的社会媒体的使用。因为其他因素的存在,研究人员估计社交媒体网站对应激激素皮质醇的影响大约占百分之八。调查结果表明,青少年Facebook朋友超过300个压力水平会更高！

Lupien称“因此,我们可以想象,那些在Facebook上有1000或2000名好友的人可能承受更大的压力。”

不过研究者还发现社交网络朋友的点赞或支持性评论或积极性消息等可以降低皮质醇水平！

该项研究期间，研究者并没有检测青少年发展为抑郁的风险。过去有研究表明，年轻人伴高皮质醇水平不会立即表现出抑郁症状，不过11年后会出现。该项研究表明社交网络与青少年皮质醇水平密不可分。

先前丹麦Danish Happiness Research Institute进行的一项独立研究发现，退出Facebook一周后，参与者的幸福水平提高.

研究团队找来1095名平常有使用脸书的民众进行实验，并分成继续使用脸书及停用脸书1星期2组，最后要求受试者针对自己的生活满意度评分，满分10分。

有趣的是，继续使用脸书的组别从原本的7.67分，小幅上升至7.75分；而停用脸书的组别则由原本的7.56分飙升至8.12分。对此，研究中心CEO维京（Meik Wiking）表示，这是因为类似脸书这一类的社交媒体扭曲了人们对现实的感知。

维京提到，当人们在脸书上看见别人美好的生活，总是会和自己做比较，进而会觉羡慕、孤独等，但脸书上张贴的东西并不一定等于现实，也不应该成为评估自己生活的准则之一。
