去年11月，一种被称为VOC 202012/01（UK）的新型SARS-CoV-2变种在英格兰东南部迅速传播。英国政府于2020年12月20日在这些地区颁布了更强的限制措施，并最终于2021年1月5日实施第三次全国封锁。截至2021年2月15日，VOC 202012/01约占英格兰SARS-CoV-2新感染病例的95%。迄今为止，VOC 202012/01还在至少82个国家/地区进行蔓延。

VOC 202012/01在英国的迅速传播

VOC 202012/01是由17个突变（14个非同义点突变和3个缺失）所定义，其中8个在刺突蛋白中，它介导SARS-CoV-2的附着并进入人体细胞。N501Y突变是在受体结合结构域的关键接触残基，并增强病毒的结合亲和力与人血管紧张素转化酶2（ACE2）。P681H突变紧邻弗林蛋白酶切割位点，在感染和传输中占有重要地位。

VOC 202012/01的增长率

根据早期病毒传播数据，研究人员无法确定新变异是否与更高的疾病严重程度相关。理论上，如果病原体拥有更高的传播能力，则会造成更为严重的新冠大流行。无论如何，如果没有加强控制，未来的流行程度可能比以前更大，进而带来更大的负担。

综上，该研究有力的证据表明VOC 202012/01的传播速度远远大于先前存在的SARS-CoV-2变体，这种新型变异体的生长速度、疾病严重性不能用短时间产生或仅通过免疫逃逸来解释，总体上有较高的传染性。鉴于VOC 202012/01病毒变体致使发病率迅速上升，迫切的需要考虑新的方法来充分减少SARS-CoV-2的持续传播。
