近日,来自多家机构的研究人员联手,呈现了一项探索一般性认知能力(“g”)的大型(n=107,207)全基因组关联研究(GWAS)。研究人员还将结果与教育程度的大规模GWAS结合,进行了进一步的增强。

在此次研究中,研究人员共确定了70个与一般认知能力相关的独立基因组位点。结果显示,导致孟德尔疾病的基因和智力障碍表型有着显着的富集。竞争性途径分析显示上述结果涉及神经发生和突触调控的生物学过程,以及两种药物的基因靶点:T型钙通道阻滞剂桂利嗪,和钾通道抑制剂LY97241。转录组范围和表观范围的分析表明,涉及区域所富集的基因的表达跨所有大脑区域(最强烈的是小脑)。富集的基因是仅在神经元中表达的基因,而不是在少突胶质细胞或星形胶质细胞中表达的基因。

最后,研究人员报告了认知能力和不同表型之间的遗传相关性,包括精神疾病、几种自身免疫性疾病、长寿和母亲初次生育年龄。
